it's not like on tv

Recently, I've been getting into the series "Mad Men." I just finished season one, now we're onto season two.  The 50s and 60s lifestyle fascinates me.  I love the way they dress, the etiquette, the politeness, and the not-political correctness the times were back then.  Wives had to have food on the table before their husbands got home, skirts above the knee were trampy, alcohol and smoking was considered normal and not unhealthy, and many things were left unspoken.  It's crazy to me how quickly times have changed.  The series harps on a lot of topics like sex before marriage, abortion, women in the work place, health issues that were made known around that time, and marital issues.  I suggest this show to anyone looking for a good drama series with a great cast of characters and a window into a world we may never know again.

momma's day

here are some things to inspire you when looking for a gift for your mom:

incorporate a little spring into your gifts. because my mother lives
in texas, i sent her flowers (to be delivered on saturday) and some
"deer-resistant" seeds for her garden.  although, in retrospect i don't
think i would go the "flower deliver" option.  the fees and shipping were
absolutely outrageous.  maybe a card and small gift like one of the ones
featured above would the trick next time. i love that card. :)

Spring Trends (and affordable)

Bright Bags
add a pop of color to your wardrobe--oranges, greens, yellows, and reds

Chunky Heels
spring is all about the heel--on your sandal or on your pump, a plus if it's a bright color
asos, asos, target

The Little Details
(stripes, texture, and colorblocking)
your outfit is all about the little details, make sure to pick up a few pieces that add flair
and quirkiness to your style...anything from a scalloped edge, a knit texture, thin nautical
stipes or a floral pattern.
floral, scallop, colorblock, stripes & chambray

Maxi Skirts
these are all about ease and comfort...it also helps that they are back in style..
no more minis (you can go a little easy on the stair master now..)
topshop, madewell, zara, freepeople

Loud Lipstick
if you're brave enough to pull this off then I DARE YOU.
they're the hottest ticket in this year's spring fashion, popping up
all over the runway (no pun intended)

and a 70s Comeback
let's face it, all of the above is leaning a little towards that 70s style..so
crawl up to your attic space..pull out that retro print and flared
jeans and say you read it on this blog. shh..no one will know..
sunglasses: topshop, wedges: madewell, flares: gap.com

summer (yay!) swimwear (boo..)

it's (almost) beach season ya'll. and by the looks of the interwebs, all you bloggers and readers are getting excited for the new swimwear popping up in all the stores and online sites. well, i say no. i'm not ready yet. i want to combat the rising temperatures with my target sweatpants and frumpy hoodies. i still want to have hot chocolate in a mug and watch "winter" movies. (i think you can tell by my profile picture that i'm still stuck on winter-mode)  i don't want to think about my gym membership looming over my evening. all those pretty lookbooks and magazine ads are mocking me with their uber short shorts and summer sandals. but now that swimsuits are eminent, here we go:

my favorite swim looks:

When it comes to swimwear, I'm not much of an expirementer when it comes to newest trends.  I think it's best to stick to suits that fit your body type, and if you want to try something new, maybe try a new pattern or a little ruffle or bright color.
