it's not like on tv

Recently, I've been getting into the series "Mad Men." I just finished season one, now we're onto season two.  The 50s and 60s lifestyle fascinates me.  I love the way they dress, the etiquette, the politeness, and the not-political correctness the times were back then.  Wives had to have food on the table before their husbands got home, skirts above the knee were trampy, alcohol and smoking was considered normal and not unhealthy, and many things were left unspoken.  It's crazy to me how quickly times have changed.  The series harps on a lot of topics like sex before marriage, abortion, women in the work place, health issues that were made known around that time, and marital issues.  I suggest this show to anyone looking for a good drama series with a great cast of characters and a window into a world we may never know again.

momma's day

here are some things to inspire you when looking for a gift for your mom:

incorporate a little spring into your gifts. because my mother lives
in texas, i sent her flowers (to be delivered on saturday) and some
"deer-resistant" seeds for her garden.  although, in retrospect i don't
think i would go the "flower deliver" option.  the fees and shipping were
absolutely outrageous.  maybe a card and small gift like one of the ones
featured above would the trick next time. i love that card. :)
